Dox RDS Extension - Digital dictation

Speed and efficiency are the twin mantras of the proponents of speech recognition; but several problems have held back the technology when applied in the healthcare setting — the demands made of doctors to bend their work practices to the dictates of the system and the ultimate integration of the dictation process into the workflow and the medical record.  Dox DDS provides several approaches which may be selectively applied to overcome those obstacles and deliver significant returns on investment as well. 

Speech recognition can’t entirely eliminate the need for effort by someone at a keyboard —  98% accuracy still means that medical correspondence with common phrases may have 3 or more errors per page (more when names and addresses are included).  A reliable and efficient process is possible however if the benefit of speech recognition is complemented with further automation that highlights probable errors for correction by semi-skilled staff.

Dox DDS provides that automation.  Whether transcription is done by Speech Recognition or by a skilled transcriptionist, DDS will enhance a doctor’s dictation workflow when it streamlines the approval process which releases the letter for publishing.  It will then automatically format the document, incorporate episode and addressee details, print fax or email the letter, and then finally embed the document in the medical record.  

This is all achieved in an environment that can combine local and distant locations for dictation,  transcription, and printing.
